Julia is a German who, in her late teens, moved to Portugal and ended up settling there. After settling in, she built a homestead that feeds her family and has also become part of the local Bitcoin meetup. Through her experience, Julia has discovered many parallels between the work of running a homestead and the work of understanding and working with Bitcoin.
Julia joined me in a conversation from her home in Southern Portugal to chat about her homestead, local community and Bitcoin. She shared her experience of moving to Portugal at 19 and the opportunity that presented itself for her to resettle there. Julia has found that both homesteading and Bitcoin work require a high upfront investment and a low time preference.
Julia has found that her homesteading and Bitcoin journey has been deeply intertwined. She believes that the same principles of resilience and self-reliance used in homesteading have been useful in the Bitcoin space. Julia has seen the growth of the Bitcoin meetup in her local community and she is passionate about helping others learn and understand the technology.
Julia has found a lot of satisfaction in running her homestead and learning about Bitcoin. She sees both activities as a way to create a life of freedom and self-sufficiency. Julia’s story reminds us that there is great value in investing our time and energy in learning new skills and technologies that can help us build a better future.
